Last month there were talks that a group of NFL ballers would come out in support of each other about there sexual preferences. Yesterday Jason Collins a Center for the Boston Celtics decided to let the world know that he is actually a Homosexual African American man, making himself the first openly gay professional American athlete.
Collin’s announcement was met with mixed reviews. Many people have given back negative feed back, making jokes, even to go as far as to make “funny” instagram pictures. But just as many people hate the idea of a openly gay black athlete, our country has grown so much that the support he’s received is just as powerful if not more.
Society puts so much pressure on people to live a certain way. If you do not fit into the “norm” you are ridiculed, looked at differently, and judged. All being some of the worse feelings in the world. With more athlete’s, celebrities, and even politicians admitting to their sexual preferences doors will open for so many young people dealing with identity issues.
I think each and every person should be proud of themselves, their life, and their choices. No one is living your life and the only person you need to make happy is yourself. Who cares what anyone else thinks.
